JKE win prestigious digester cleaning contract
Interserve Plc Have awarded JKE a sub-contract to empty and
clean four digesters at Riverside STW Thames Water site. These digesters
have been out of service for many years and still contain approx 10,000m3
of waste. JKE proposed to remove and then screen the waste which will
reduce the waste off site to as little as 10% of the original volume.
The program is expected to last 7-8 weeks and will involve almost
20 staff including speacial operations teams, rescue teams and confined
space entry crews. The works are part of a £60m project to carry
out the construction of the Riverside Sludge Digestion Plant in Rainham.
Interserve will construct a new Thermal Hydrolysis Plant, refit digestion
equipment and undertake alterations and extensions in order to meet
the new Tideway Operating Agreement consent for client Thames Water
Utilities Ltd. In addition to handling sludge generated at the Riverside
sewage treatment works (STW) the plant will also take material from
the nearby Beckton STW.
October 2009
JKE began a major project in Oct 2009 for Syral UK Ltd in Greenwich.
The site was previously owned by Tate & Lyle. The project involved
the cleaning and emptying the many tanks, vessels, aeration lanes
and digesters which formed part of the processing system. The plant
processed wheat flour into starch, wheat proteins and glucose syrups,
also with a distillery attached, manufacturing pure alcohol for the
drinks industry. The work is expected to take several months to complete
and involve the removal and disposal of many different and hazardous
waste streams.
