The transport department is run by a team of dedicated people.
Amongst them they have many years of working in the transport environment
including our own Driver/Assessor to help with the ever changing rules
and regulations.
We currently have 64 HGV vehicles and 30 support vehicles. It is our
roll to ensure that our Fleet and Drivers are kept up to date with
current legislation with regards to VOSA requirements. We pride ourselves
in making sure that we are up to speed with all changes that happen
and deal with them as a priority, i.e. the New Mirror legislation,
On Road Driver Spot Fines, infringements and the New Drivers CPC which
is due to start in September 2009. Over the last 12 months we have
introduced systems to control the Work Time Directive, Drivers Infringements
and European Driving rules.
We employ our own force of Commercial Mechanics based at our Royston
Depot and a Mobile Mechanic for our out based depots who between them
have gained a vast amount of knowledge in dealing with the specialist
types of equipment that we operate. This enables us to respond rapidly
to any type of breakdown ensuring the continuity of the fleet. Our
workshop in Royston contains our own Rolling Road for Brake Testing
and a State of the Art Scissor Lift that is capable of lifting up
to 60 tonnes. We pride ourselves that in the last 12 months we have
had a first time pass rate of over 95% for our vehicles going for
their MOT test and we are always aiming to higher our goal to reach
the magical 100%.
We are also looking at ways to improve our Carbon Foot print and are
always looking to use the best systems to reduce our carbon emissions
i.e. the use of Adblue and the purchasing of vehicle that have the
Reduced Pollution exhaust systems and also by giving our drivers the
best raining to be more fuel efficient. We control the O Licences,
the Insurance for our fleet and control the accidents that might have
occurred and we have reduced this area by over 60% in the last 9 months
with the correct training and attitude by our driving force.
